Auto insurance prices: more than 50% difference between the Lot and Seine-Saint-Denis

The Insurance Comparator The Lynx publishes its ranking of car insurance prices by region, department and major city. The most affordable premium is in the Lot, and insurances on the contrary culminate in Seine-Saint-Denis.

This is not a surprise, the price of motor insurance varies greatly between cities and French countryside. In its 2018 barometer , the insurance comparator site The Lynx finds more than 50% difference between two rates for the same driver profile.

The site has studied the prices of 800,000 quotes made in 2017 from insurers, and raised an average price of 595 euros, an increase of 2.6% compared to 2016. Prices rose by 5.1% in two years. According to Martin Coriat, director, insurance has been increasing by 2-3% every year for the last fifteen years.

Bonuses flare up in Seine-Saint-Denis and Marseille

Not surprisingly, the regions where car insurance is the most expensive are Île-de-France (660 € / year on average, 713 € in the Seine-Saint-Denis department) and PACA (636 € / year) . Vandalism and theft are obviously some of the factors that make the prices "flambé". On the contrary, the western and southwestern regions are well placed, with an average of € 515 per year in Brittany, and € 529 in the Pays-de-Loire. The department of the Lot is flatly € 239 below the Seine-Saint-Denis, with € 474 per year average premium. Overall, the France auto insurance is divided into two major parts: the prices are lower west of a diagonal Paris-Marseille.

In the ranking of large cities, the premium reached € 756 in Marseille and € 693 in Nice! It is slightly less expensive in Paris (672 €) or Lyon (670 €). The most affordable major city to insure its vehicle is Nantes, at € 574 per year, almost on par with Rennes (€ 575). Toulouse, Bordeaux and Angers are also well placed.
